Oppa Outing #6: Angel Ilhoon joins the ranks

Two oppas joined us on part one of a weekend in Federal Way. It's a bit of a drive, but [livejournal.com profile] sarea_okelani and I like going down there because they have excellent Korean food (although so many places only open for dinner so it's a Sophie's choice of what to eat every time now, ugh) and our regular noraebang. [livejournal.com profile] slitherhither would also join us later!

The primary oppa chosen to accompany us this time was Ilhoon. He is represented by Tigger because BTOB once dressed up as Disney characters for their Winter's Tale music video, which was adorable to the max. Hoonie oppa also has little angel wings (a doggy harness, teehee) because Ilhoon's birthday is on Oct 4, and in Korean, the word for 1004 is a homonym for the word 'angel'. (He rarely lives up to his nickname.)

Because this was outing #6, however, Sungjae oppa also insisted on coming along. His surname Yook is the same as the word for 6, which he is obsessed with (even naming his cat Sami – or three-two – because they multiply to 6).

Being the two maknaes of BTOB and all-around rapscallions, Hoonie and Sungjae immediately teamed up to cause trouble. Here they are attempting to abscond with Sarea's car while Sarea popped in to Chef Shop in Seattle to pick up some very expensive chocolate and capers.

Luckily, Sarea came back before they could figure out how to work the steering wheel and the pedals at the same time, what with being so little. We tried the chocolate (which Sarea had bought because "they have good PR" and she is a level 7 suggestible), but decided our palates aren't evolved enough to really appreciate gourmet chocolate versus something like a good dark chocolate bar from Trader Joe's. Enjoyable, nonetheless. We also ate some baking chocolate and happened to like it more.

Onward to Tukwila for lunch at Miyabi Sushi. We'd wanted to try this for a while because it is a sister restaurant to Miyabi Sushi in Tacoma, a restaurant we'd frequented regularly when I'd lived down there for a spell. Sarea got a sashimi platter and black cod collar (not pictured because it came out much later than everything else), and I had agedashi tofu, ika sushi, and oysters wrapped in bacon. It was good, but seemed much pricier than we remembered at our original Miyabi.

With some time to kill before meeting Slither at noraebang, we went to Asensio Coffee – me with my cool new reusable coffee cup in an attempt to do my part in killing the environment slightly less hard – for a latte (me) and an Americano (Sarea). It's a nice, comfortable coffee shop, although whoever is working at the counter – and it's been a different person every time – NEVER SAYS HELLO.

We took the opportunity to exchange emergency information, as Sarea and Slither had been worried I was dead a couple days before, because for some reason I wasn't getting my KakaoTalk notifications and therefore wasn't replying to anything they'd sent me. And then they had no idea how to get in touch with my family and stuff, and Sarea was considering coming over to my condo to see if my body was cooling in there and/or being eaten by wild dogs. Thankfully, neither was the case, and it was all sorted out in due course, but it did make us realize we needed a better check-in system.

After picking up drinks at HMart, we met Slither at First Ave Karaoke at around 3:20, only to be thwarted by it being closed, even though they are supposed to open at 3. They post a phone number on their door when no one's there so Sarea called but no one picked up and she left a voicemail. Another party of noraebangers turned up a few minutes later and one of them called as well, to no avail, and they wandered off elsewhere. This has been a regular issue, though prior to this day the ahjumma or ahjussi in charge would usually turn up within a few minutes, usually from the bar nearby that we think they also own (and possibly launder money from).

However, this time we had to wait probably between 20-30 minutes and I tried calling again, with success, finally, and the ahjumma did emerge from the bar. She was impressed that we asked her "how are you?" in Korean but didn't deign to actually give a response, lol.

Here is Hoonie deftly navigating the Korean remote control and getting in on the action with the Ilhoon-penned 'Movie'. Sungjae didn't come out of Sarea's bag during this time; I think he was sulking because earlier at Asensio she had expressed a rapidly growing appreciation of JB from GOT7.

Dinner was at So Moon Nan Jib, where Slither and I had Korean BBQ for the first time! We got the non-marinated meat 3-4 person set, which comes with an assortment of brisket, steak, pork belly, and other stuff I don't remember (Sarea probably knows), as well as salad, steamed egg, and doenjang jjigae. Meatfully delicious.
