I was so, so excited when I saw Chapter Ten had been posted, but now my heart hurts, ha ha. <3 <3 <3

Even though I feel sorry for Arthur, Merlin has the majority of my sympathies. Merlin may have taken the cowardly approach by not telling Arthur how he truly felt, but I don't blame him for doing what he did. Love just . . . hurts like that sometimes, especially when you feel like it's one-sided. And in Merlin's case, he definitely felt like his feelings for Arthur were unrequited.

Merlin probably thought Arthur wouldn't even be phased by his resignation, because he's not psychic and can't tell how Arthur truly feels. I wish we knew what Morgana and Merlin discussed before he resigned. Arthur may not have realized it, but I have a feeling Morgana knew that Merlin's attachment to Arthur was no longer . . . professional? That there was something more going on between the two of them.

When she was disappointed with Arthur's reaction to Merlin's dismissal . . . I feel like she was hoping, just like we were, that he would admit he cares about Merlin--that he wants to BE with Merlin. I mean, come on, the two of them have been through a lot, but Arthur is not as in tune with his emotions as Merlin is--it was only a matter of time before the whole sex ordeal broke Merlin. But of course, Merlin wouldn't let Arthur know that. He wouldn't let Arthur see that even though he wanted him--emotionally AND physically--their whole "sex" agreement hurt him. Hurt him because he thought that's all Arthur wanted, even though that's not true. But both boys are so afraid to just . . . talk about their feelings that THIS happens.

I'm not sure how Arthur and Merlin are going to meet up again, but I hope that when they do, they realize that you can't just sleep with each other and not FEEL anything--that there's obviously more between them than sex. I feel like Arthur finally knows now how Merlin felt all those chapters ago--because sadly, he's just that emotionally slow. Now Arthur assumes Merlin didn't feel the same way about him because he left without a fight--that he was okay with leaving, even though Merlin clearly had to force himself to resign just to spare his poor heart and sanity because he cares for Arthur TOO much.

I wonder how Arthur will react if and when he discovers why, exactly, Merlin left the way that he did. I mean, both boys are so stupid in their own way. Merlin is stupid for being so self-sacrificing, and Arthur is stupid for being so oblivious.

Anyway, ha ha . . . Sorry about my long comment. :) Lovely, lovely story. I just adore your work. I look forward to the next chapterrrr. <3 <3 <3 <3
