Finals Week has descended like a lead balloon of doooom! [Cue lightning, thunder, etc.] I dreamt a couple nights ago that I had a 50% grade going into the final, and on waking, had to spend a few minutes making sure that wasn't actually the case. Thankfully, I just have to get through tomorrow, and then I'm free as a bird on work release, as the new quarter starts a week and a half after that and is widely reported to be the hardest quarter of all. Hooray! (Also I think I have just seriously pissed off one of my supervisors for next quarter because of scheduling miscommunications, ugh.)

In movie news, Benedict Cumberbatch is, as one might suspect, totally amazing in Star Trek: Into Darkness. [personal profile] slitherhither and I quite enjoyed him and all the shots of him and Zachary Quinto sprinting about like badasses. (And go look up his deleted scene if you haven't; it doesn't spoil anything. In fact, it might be quite the pick-me-up.) Also, [profile] sarea_okelani and I went to Now You See Me yesterday, featuring my sun and stars Jesse Eisenberg and a whole host of other likeable, awesome actors like Mark Ruffalo and Isla Fisher, who we agreed should be in everything because she is sheer perfection.

Anyway, I thought it was an enjoyable, entertaining little caper. It's not without its problems -- a few plotholes, hints at interesting character interplay that don't come to fruition -- but it rolls right along at a snappy pace and is just plain fun, so overall the good bits come up trumps. Also, did I mention Jesse Eisenberg's face? It gives me all the feels, this face.

You know, the feeling that you're feeling is just what many of us call... a "feeling".

TV-wise, HUZZAH, Francis Capra is officially signed on to reprise his role as Weevil on the Veronica Mars movie! He's the best one :)

I am on my rewatch of Arrested Development S4 now. It's certainly not the same as the first three seasons; that's not to say that it's bad. True, the first few episodes do drag a bit and some characters are more suited to the let's-follow-one-main-character-per-episode set-up, but honestly, I don't understand why so many people are down on this season. The latter half of the season is great, and that's where so much of the pay-off happens. The sharp, slightly twisted humour from the original series is very much intact, as are the insular referencing and the tiny jokes you might only notice the fourth time around. Plus, there's a completely unexpected, organic, wonderful development for the GOB character (he was always my favourite).

Also, also, is anyone else watching Orphan Black? YOU MUST. It's a sort of sci-fi-ish BBC America drama, but very much grounded in the present and tackles questions about nature/nurture and how far science should go; it has a nice Fringe feel to it, and if you thought Anna Torv was incredible (as well you should), Tatiana Maslany in the title role is a complete revelation. She plays six (and counting) versions of a character, each of them so layered and distinct sometimes I forget they're played by the same actor. There is not enough hyperbole in the world to contain her amazingness.
