adelagia: (arthur has an angry)
Well. It took nine years, but I've finally been plagiarized!

A kind fellow fandomer alerted me to the plagiarism, and there is absolutely no question that it's my fic with different names slotted in, because the "author" barely bothered to change anything else at all. And apparently he/she/it has done this to several other authors as well.

Right now I'm vacillating wildly between DENOUNCE! DENOUNCE! PUBLIC SHAMING! and privately contacting the person to give them a chance to just take it down. But also one of the other affected authors is going the public denouncing route, so perhaps that will take care of it all at once. Hrm.

Thoughts?

ETA: About ten minutes after posting the above, the tumblr was deactivated. And then she apparently set up a new one with a slightly different username. I'm just laughing now. I mean, it still sucks and she still obviously hasn't learned a thing from this, but... god, people are so silly sometimes.

ETA 2: And now the second tumblr has mysteriously vanished as well! I'm excited to see where she pops up next. Stay tuned for the next installment of Assholes on the Internet, folks!

adelagia: (mst3k | whimsy overdose)
I have things to do today, so naturally I'm updating my LJ instead of doing them. I sort of feel like I have earned a little bit of slacking off, though; this is the first weekend in about a month and a half that I haven't had to spend my Saturday at school or with study groups. We have tomorrow off, too, for Presidents Day, but I still have to go to campus to do things, ugh. How sad that it's only when there's a three-day weekend that I get an actual weekend! But I have gotten to sleep in for two days straight and it's been glorious. On top of that, last night I dreamt I totally made out with Jack Whitehall. Good job, brain! o/\o

In other news, this WSJ article tickles me to no end: It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being 'It' -- Group of Men Have Played Game of Tag for 23 Years; Hiding in Bushes, Cars. Doesn't that sound epically awesome? I've convinced three of my high school friends to do this with me. Hee!

In a fit of nostalgia last night I reread some of the last D/G fic I wrote, Miles to Go Before I Sleep, which I never finished because of reasons (mostly because my computer crashed and I lost a ton of notes and writings). I really wish I had finished, though... I want to know what happens! Lol. I can't believe that was almost four years ago now. Yikes. I've been in fandom for forever. I AM SO OLD.

For the friends who responded to the mail call from a couple weeks ago, I haven't forgotten! I've enveloped and taped and addressed everything, and will get it all sent out later this week!

Saw Warm Bodies last week with [livejournal.com profile] sarea_okelani and [livejournal.com profile] slitherhither; it was enjoyable, and followed the book fairly faithfully, though lacked some of the depth the book had. I'm not sure how much it was missed if you hadn't read the book. Also I feel a little bit frowny at Nora's casting -- not the actress herself; she did a fine job. But seriously, are there zero black actresses who could have filled the role equally well? That said, I really liked the movie overall; it's funny and fun, and the leads were great together. Nicholas Hoult, as has been established multiple times on my LJ, is such a gem; he's so expressive and I loved the way he moved as a zombie. We also saw a trailer beforehand for Jack the Giant Slayer, which looks terrible, but I may have to see it anyway because he's in it. The following Monday, a classmate mentioned that she had gone to see Warm Bodies over the weekend too, so I was all ready to go YAY, LET'S TALK ABOUT IT but then she said that it sucked and only teenagers would like it, so that was that. Thank goodness for fandom friends. :)

adelagia: (mst3k | something vague)
I have started writing again! There was a dry spell for a very long time, but I wrote 750 words yesterday and 1200 today without any advanced planning, and that makes me so happy. These things may never see the light of day, but it just feels good to be able to write again. Hurrah!

(And now that I've announced it, I've probably just jinxed myself into blockage again. Damn this exuberance!)

In the midst of this spree, I totally forgot to post the next chapter of Shadowplay like I'd intended to today, and now it's late and formatting and everything takes too long, so I will get it up tomorrow. You are all allowed to kick me in the shins if I don't.

Some of you may recall how much I dread writing porn (A LOT), but a couple days ago I put my head down and powered through, and managed to bang out 2,000 words of sweet, sweet M/A lovin', and I have it on good authority that it doesn't even suck! THIS PLEASES ME GREATLY.

Now if I could only finish the rest of the fic... I swear I will have this thing done by 2016. 2018, tops.

adelagia: (kermit yay)
This post is about [livejournal.com profile] accordingtomel and me finishing our epic Merlin fic. It will contain CAPSLOCK SQUEE and INCOHERENCE. You've been warned! :D

WHEEEE )

adelagia: (m/a arthurian foreplay)
Ahem.

So, I'm gearing up to write some porn for an M/A AU I'm working on. Trouble is, I'm not very good at it, so here's where you come in, f-list! Rec me your favourite porny M/A fics, the dirtier and more detailed the better, so that I may learn from the very best.

I'm dedicated to my craft, is what it is. (Yes, let's go with that.)

adelagia: (AD | question)
Fic hypothetical.

If two kick-ass, modern-day, secret-agentesque protagonists somehow got themselves captured, relieved of their weapons and hog-tied to chairs with painful death imminent (after the villain is finished speechifying, obvs), how might said protagonists get out of this situation alive?

I'm not saying I'm writing this; I just want to solve it first before I write myself into a corner. I don't have enough action movies ingrained in my brain to know what to do, and I suspect the amazing power of love between the two characters is of little use. ¬¬

(Also, Merlin does not have his magic, alas.)

adelagia: (30 rock | page numbers)
  •  Last Saturday I didn't have time to get on LJ and it's only snowballed from there to skip=infinity million, so I'm sorry if I've missed anything important. Point me to it!
  • Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] 13oct for the lovely postcard! It looks gorgeous over there, ohhh.
  • A couple of days ago we went blueberry picking (the season has only just begun, thanks to crappy summer weather; seriously what is up with these temperatures?), and at one point a child got slightly lost among all the bushes and called out for her mother, and the mother went, "I'm over here; just follow the sound of my voice." I very nearly followed up with "Coliiin... Follow my voice, Colin..." but nobody would've understood. Need more RL Merlin friends, obvs.
  • The second artist request post has gone up at [livejournal.com profile] paperlegends; give it a looksee if you may be able to help out!
  • Considering the kind of debilitating, why-do-I-even-bother dry spells I go through with my writing, I shall take it as a major win that I managed about two thousand words this week. It's sort of a drop in the ocean of a massive fic (it's going to be epic, watch out), but every bit counts, I suppose!
  • Drumroll... IT'S SHARK WEEK. \0/

YOU GUISE. Look at these lovely shiny things I won at the [livejournal.com profile] merslashawards!

merslashaward: best short

merslashaward: best humour

Considering the massive number of brilliant authors in this fandom -- and the company kept in the nominations, I was surprised to even have been nominated for anything, let alone win two things. Needless to say, THIS PLEASES ME GREATLY. Thanks everyone, congratulations everyone, high fives to everyone. :)

Yoinked this meme from [livejournal.com profile] accordingtomel and stole away into the night with it. Ominous music!

Post a line or paragraph from one (or more!) of your works-in-progress, and encourage your flist to do the same.

FYI, I may have gone overboard )

So, as per the meme rules, this is me encouraging you, the flist, to gank this meme for yourselves. Do it!

adelagia: (mst3k | plot thinnens)
[livejournal.com profile] pandarus has been so awesome as to record a podfic of Fools of Us All. Give it a listen here (3 versions available -- m4b, m4a, mp3) and leave her some love!

Also, for the writers and artists out there -- [livejournal.com profile] teenwitch77 is heading up a new quarterly online magazine Ricochet that's accepting short stories, poetry, photography and art submissions right now. Give it a looksee; get yourself published! :)

adelagia: (mst3k | plot thinnens)
Hello all, would anyone be willing to beta a Bradley/Colin fic for me? It's ~8k words and NC-17 (or possibly PG-13 depending on whether the porn is worth keeping).

adelagia: (mst3kheadache)
A few weeks ago I was complaining about how difficult it is for me to write good kissing scenes. So, naturally, to get myself over this little hurdle, I went and wrote porn instead. Whatiswrongwithme.

Having never written porn before, this misguided endeavour unsurprisingly also proved very difficult (I might have said 'hard' there, but then I'd just be setting myself up for a Michael Scott joke), and I don't know if I'll do it again because I'm pretty sure I've run out of hotness-related words. Plus, I could just barely get over myself going 'TEEHEE' every time I typed anything vaguely sexy. I mean, I'll read fandom smut any chance I get, but writing it myself pretty much just gave the 12 year old in my head free license to titter madly the whole time. UNHELPFUL, emotionally stunted self.

I bow down to those of you who make smuttination seem so effortless and awesome.

adelagia: (AD solution)
I have two one Dreamwidth invite codes to give out, so if you or anyone you know would like to get in on that action, give me a holler.

Unrelatedly, I hate writing kissing scenes. Sometimes they are necessary, and most of the time they are an exercise in wretchedness. I can make people banter until the cows come home, but get them less than one foot away from each other and my muse runs screaming. Blargh.
adelagia: (mst3k bridge game)
So, it was my LJ's one year anniversary yesterday. To celebrate I have treated myself to a new header. Heh. Check out the pretty, ladies.

The weather's been absolutely sweltering this past week; just looking out the window gives me a headache. Who wants to trade weather? Deep freeze sounds good right about now.

Also. Would anyone be willing to take a look at Merlin/Arthur fic for me? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

adelagia: (AD question)
Er. It would appear that I am now writing Merlin fic. Completely at the expense of my current D/G because apparently my brain cannot handle more than one fandom at a time. No good, horrible brain.

Also, Merlin and Arthur just swooped right into angsty territory without any warning and I'm the worst at writing angst. Get out of there, boys.

adelagia: (mst3kheadache)
Mmrr. I don't like it when a fic comes highly recommended and then I can't read it because the author hasn't figured out how to punctuate dialogue correctly, and poor SpaG usage sets my teeth on edge. I mean, on the one hand, yay interesting plot, and on the other, why can't you apply punctuation rules you should have learned and mastered as a wee child?

In all likelihood, I am being overly picky and need to calm down. But I'm going to see this instead as a one-woman crusade against bad punctuation. (It's a very silent crusade.)

Also, happy earth day, everyone.
adelagia: (AD solution)
On [livejournal.com profile] dragonsangel68's recommendation, I rented Definitely, Maybe a couple of days ago. I'd been wanting to see it for a while, but also kind of avoiding it because I really don't care for Elizabeth Banks, not since she Mary Sued it up on Scrubs (which I recognise is not necessarily her fault because she wasn't the one who wrote the character, but writers don't have faces and I need someone to blame, and irrationality is complicated). Anyway. Good call, Jen. Thank you. It was such a sweet movie, and really pleasantly atypical for a romantic comedy while still fulfilling the requirements of the genre.

And now for something completely different.

adelagia: (mst3k plot thinnens)
Whoop, I haven't posted for a while, eh? It's probably because I haven't been doing anything remotely noteworthy, and holy crap, I need a job. Thanks, tanking economy.

I have been doing a bit of fic-writing, though. [livejournal.com profile] xalexandriamis reading and betaing a fic for me currently, so hopefully a) it doesn't blow, and b) she can help me with the ending because I have this problem every time, in that, if I don't know exactly how the final scene plays out, it takes me forever to finish the fic, and then people leave sad, anxious reviews full of exclamation marks, and I feel terrible, and it makes me get more writer's block. This is why I now try not to post anything unless I've finished writing the fic first. It's probably less stressful for all involved, except maybe for Mia, who last had to beta 65 pages at a go. (*waves* Thank you, Mia.)

Anyway, in the spirit of the Halloween season, here's a drabble I wrote yesterday. I originally began it with the intention of making it a D/G, but it doesn't want to be written that way at the moment. Oh well.

Title: The Warrior
Rating: G
Characters: Ginny, George
Summary: George helps Ginny's Halloween decorations discover their true calling.
