This post is about
accordingtomel and me finishing our epic Merlin fic. It will contain CAPSLOCK SQUEE and INCOHERENCE. You've been warned! :D
First off, OMG OMG OMG WE'RE DONE. \0/ I can't believe we're done but also HOORAY. This baby took us over a year to plot and outline and write, and now WE'RE DONE! With 109,724 words! Oh god, we are SO WORDY. Nobody will want to read this damn thing, LOL!
But you TOTALLY should read it. It's really good, I'm serious. We've both done some of our best writing for it, sometimes in genres we weren't that comfortable with, and I have to say, at the end of all this, that WE ARE AWESOME. AWESOME, I TELL YOU. It's not often I'll toot my own horn this flagrantly, but I am SO proud of what we've done, and how hard we worked to keep the characters consistent and to let them develop at their own pace.
Every writer knows how characters can sometimes take over the show and move the plot in directions you never intended, and that happened here A LOT. That meant rearranging a lot of plot points, or axing them altogether, and I think our fic is so much better off for having that flexibility. Two characters were supposed to develop feelings for each other and didn't, a character we wanted to bring in never ended up setting foot in the story, and Sir Leon originally didn't feature in the fic AT ALL. Mostly for the fun of having Leon around we gave him a background role, which then somehow turned into a second-lead role in a romance we didn't see coming until it was practically on top of us. And it worked so well we couldn't NOT write it.
Speaking of working well, I could not have asked for a better writing partner than
accordingtomel, who writes like the wind, plots and problem-solves like nobody's business, cheerfully lets me have my way, and puts up with all my writing neuroses (I have A LOT, and Mel is a saint for not coming over and braining me with my own computer). SHE IS A GEM. ♥
READ OUR STORY, YOU GUYS. PARTAKE OF OUR SQUEE. :DDD

on 2011-03-05 02:04 am (UTC)Suffice it to say, I am the luckiest fan alive because I am reading two new stories by you right now. I wasn't going to start this one until I'd finished the one you sent me, but I opened the tab, as you do when you're exicted about a new fic, and kinda sorta started reading it. :-D I don't have comments ready on the other yet, but soon. Thank you for being patient! And OMG I can't wait until I can finish this one, too! :-D
