Make the choice again, Donna Noble. Turn right.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Oh, neat. Finally a Writer's Block question that I can answer somewhat unboringly. Well, kids, it all started in my senior year of high school... I received a small, white box in the mail one day, the address label typed, and no return address to be found. I wasn't in the habit of receiving anonymous parcels in the mail, and this was like the postal equivalent of the unmarked white van, so I was a little freaked out by it. I left it on the kitchen counter, unopened, giving it a wide berth in case it planned to explode. The house remained unscathed after a few days and there wasn't any ticking coming from it, so I tentatively opened it to find a lone fortune cookie inside. The fortune? "You will go to [Name of the University I Went To]."

Turns out it was a college admissions ploy to make me want to go to there. I don't think they thought the idea completely through because it totally did not help. The scholarship they gave me later did, though. Thanks, School.

Awww, that's a cute story.

Hee, it's fun to tell now, but at the time it was really weird. I hope they're not still doing that...

It amazes me the lengths your colleges go to attract students.

That wasn't the only thing they sent me, either! That was back in the day, though, and the positions are a bit reversed now. These past couple of years the college-going population has gone way up, and kids are applying to, like, 20 colleges just so one will stick. I had a straight-A student who got waitlisted at all 10 schools she applied to!
