But this one goes to eleven

Oh, I am so behind on all my shows, mostly because I've either been busy with the house or have tried to allot my free time to writing, so it's not all a waste. I managed to finish White Collar last week (to which I only had this to say: WHAT?!), Being Human's finale is still sitting quietly in my video list, and I only just got around to watching the DW premiere last night.

I have to say I was pretty skeptical about Matt Smith, especially when we got that promotional photo of him with the weirdly sculpted hair in front of the TARDIS when his casting was first announced, and given that I really loved both Chris Eccleston and David Tennant's Doctors, I was like, WHO IS THIS LITTLE UPSTART?

It was [livejournal.com profile] ems who recently noted that his face looks like a foot, and that is a sentiment I cannot disagree with; I mean, look at him. He's all wrong in the face. But as it turns out, I LOVE HIM. I do get shades of Ten from him, particularly in the way he sort of bounces up and says HALLO! all bright and bushy-tailed; is that on purpose, I wonder? And possibly I am being premature with my fangirl flail since I have yet to see eps 2 and 3, but I am now super, super excited for the rest of the season.

As for Amy Pond, I ALSO LOVE HER. The little girl version of her was adorably fabulous; I want to keep her around for always. Am I right to be concerned that Amy's story could be a retread of Rose/Mickey, though? Hrm.

The actual storyline for ep 1 was kind of middling for me, but considering it was the introductory episode for a whole new Doctor and Companion, keeping the plot really simple was probably to be expected. At any rate, I thought it was a pretty solid effort to showcase the new Doctor/Companion relationship at the forefront, rather than tying them down right away in a lot of running and shouting, heh.

(Also: Hi, Olivia Colman! I recognise you from other things!)

To sum up: DW ♥

I wasn't even sure I was going to look at the new series of DW because no one could be as fab as Tennant, but then I saw the season preview and the weep angels and was well well damn, I gotta look now.

So I watched the first episode on Saturday night. OMG SO FREAKING IN LOVE WITH ELEVEN AND AMY! He's so charming. He has an air of whimsy about him that was lacking in Nine and Ten. I really, really loved how Moffat developed the Doctor/Companion relationship - meeting at various times in her life and him always being late.

HEEE. Yeah, while I absolutely loved the gravity that Nine and Ten had, the element of playfulness with Eleven is just a ton of fun to watch. I thought he and little Amelia had such lovely chemistry; I really want her around somemore!

He is a bit like Ten. Easily excitable, getting loud when ranting about unjustice... there is other stuff.

Amy... I loved little Amy but I still haven't seen anything about the adult Amy that defines her as her. So far all I have seen is a mix of Donna and Rose... I am not so patiently waiting for something that is defining Amy as AMY.

Well, continuity-wise I guess it makes sense if he was like Ten, considering he's really still the same person, just with a different face! :)

Mmm, interesting to see how Amy will turn out. I really wish there was a way to keep the little girl around, though; I thought she was fabulous!

Yeah, but it would still be nice if you could see character traits that are Eleven, instead of thinking "Oh, that was very Ten-ish" all the time.
I dunno. I think I have prejudices because Ten was my doctor for such a long time.

Little Amy was absolutely fabulous. The actress is actually somehow related to Karen Gilian, the actress of the adult Amy.
