So, last night's Agents of SHIELD episode was good. I keep going back and forth with this show. Some weeks are a bit of a slog -- and the previous episode really tripped one of my pet peeves: TPTB, if you want to write a Chinese character, make sure the actor you hire can actually speak the language properly; it's ridiculously easy to tell when they can't and ruins the "authenticity" you're aiming for.

I have gotten off track. So, yes. Last night's episode: good. I want to say it's because it finally focused on character relationships and development, but I'm pretty sure it's because they also focused on characters that I'm actually interested in. More screen time for the lab geeks (and excellent performances from the actors) was a welcome change from Ward and Skye, who do nothing for me. Ward is the character equivalent of room temperature tap water, and with Skye, I don't know. I think the actress is actually doing a pretty nice job; some of her line deliveries are kind of brilliant. I just have no affinity for the character at all.

But this is a convenient segue into today's NaBloPoMo question: What's your current fandom love(s) and/or ship(s)?

There was potential for it previously, and yesterday's episode sealed it for FitzSimmons. Nerdy best friends who bicker adorably all day and will die for each other? Yes, I accept. Of course, this being a Joss Whedon vehicle, I can only assume one of them is headed for a sudden, tragic death. (See: Everything Joss has written ever.)

I'm still a bit iffy about Agents of Shield but I watch, of course, for Coulson, and I really like FitzSimmons.

Favourite show right now, and for a while actually, is Elementary.

Yeah, I'm with you. The show still hasn't found solid footing. I'm still in for Coulson and FitzSimmons, but I don't know how long they can keep me if all the other areas continue being boring and/or problematic.

Elementary is great! Fantastic chemistry, and I really like that the writers are managing such a good platonic balance between Holmes and Watson.

Sadly I'm still not overly excited about AoS, although I thought the last episode was ok and a little more interesting. Overall I just don't really care about any of the other characters apart from Coulson and the team's cases lack the kind of 'excitement' I thought we'd get by a Joss Whedon show set in a world where super heroes and powers exist. I'll keep watching but each week I'm way more excited about other shows I watch (like Sleepy Hollow or Elementary or Grimm for example).

LOL, I can't tell you how often the 'German' spoken in US (and even UK) shows makes me cringe, it's ridiculous. I swear, most of the time German lines are spoken by people who've never even heard the language before, let alone spoken. Their pronunciation is so way off, that I hardly understand what they're (supposedly) saying in my native language. Apart from that the writers often translate dialogue in a way no one in Germany would speak. Ever. So yeah, I really feel you on this.

Yeah, despite my dig at Joss above, I'm wondering if it's his absence from the show that makes it as lackluster as it is sometimes. Apart from the first episode, I think he's not that hands-on with this one.

Lol, how hard can it be to find actors who actually speak other languages properly? Apparently incredibly difficult, considering all the languages consistently butchered!

Your beef about Chinese accents and dialects sounds like the one I have about Russian ones. Not that I'm fluent in Russian, but I've heard enough spoken in the past that I can tell when the cadence is off.

Ward and Skye are not my favourite characters, either, and I like the snappy quips that the geek squad direct at each other. But nobody has caught my fancy or sparked my imagination in a particularly strong fashion. For awhile, I thought the agent with the eye implant had some possibilities, but she was just a bit part.

Yes, that and the way Chinese characters always have to live in Chinatown and be involved with the triads somehow. And all Russians are linked to the mafia, apparently!

Oh, yeah, I liked the agent with the eye implant too. They should replace Ward with her, that would be grand.
