This past Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] sarea_okelani and I began our weekend festivities at Gyu-Kaku, a Japanese BBQ restaurant we have been to several times (including with Sungjae oppa). When I say "we" and "several times" I mean Sarea and I, and approximately four times so far. Sarea with other people? Like, twenty-six times, at a minimum. So many times, in fact, that the manager greeted her by name when we walked in.

When we first started going to Gyu-Kaku, it was awesome because it was one of the few places we like that would take reservations online so we never had to worry about waiting for a table. It's really popular so if you didn't have a reservation you might have to wait upwards of an hour. However, their front-of-house management is very much lacking, and eventually they removed the option to make lunch reservations altogether.

Sarea had the foresight to make a ton of reservations in advance before this policy was implemented (we're booked every weekend through the end of the month, I think), but it's troublesome for when she wants to go with her colleagues during the work day and they can't afford to spend their entire lunch break waiting for a table.

Anyway, that is all backstory to say that once we were seated, the manager N came over and gave Sarea unofficial VIP status and her personal cell phone number to make up for the inability to take online reservations. So now whenever Sarea wants, she can just call N to reserve a table and bypass the crowds of commoners gathered in huddled masses at the front. This made Sarea's colleague C, upon being texted the news, very happy: "Lunch there every day?"

We attributed this stroke of luck to our oppa for the day, Song Joongki, represented by a wolf because a) he played a werewolf in the film Wolf Boy, and b) in Descendants of the Sun, he had a plush wolf (possibly fox?) dressed in army uniform - which would have been perfect for us to get, except the small sizes of the plush came without the uniform, in which case, why even bother??

Here's SJK oppa with his namesake. We took this picture at our dinner place, where there was a poster of real SJK shilling for some sort of beer, and now, as Sarea pointed out, I don't even have to search for a picture of SJK to juxtapose with SJK oppa. Hooray!

We both got the 3-item lunch combo plus the garlic rice upgrade (it's soooo tasty). Also, they had a new special menu item of cheese fondue, which Sarea was extremely excited about because she had been there the day before and it was on the menu but not available then because, as one of the servers explained, they were in the midst of searching for the right cheese. It turned out to be just cubed American cheese, to which we were like, you couldn't have just gone to QFC to pick up a few blocks of this yesterday?

SJK is an environmentally-conscious wolf and supports bringing your own reusable containers for leftovers.

Over lunch we discussed how awesome it had been the weekend prior to find a new and much cheaper noraebang in Federal Way, and we made the impulsive decision to go again (I mean, it's only $10/hr; it's practically free!) and also try Cafe Noir in the same strip, for their shaved ice, as well as Bogul Bogul for their bossam and/or cheesy fire chicken, which Yelpers recommend several times over. But because noraebang didn't open until 6, we needed to fill the time a bit before heading down.

So we went back to my place to finish watching Dream Knight, the GOT7 drama vehicle that made Sarea fall in love with JB (or, as they pronounce it in Korean, Jey-ee-bee). It was unexpectedly hilarious, with the members having a dance battle in one episode that went on so long they were all on the verge of collapsing and were begged to stop, to which Jackson replied, "The dancing must go on!" He totally had all the best lines, including "참 lonely 하다" which we have now incorporated into our everyday lexicons, with whatever adjectives we can throw in there. Jackson oppa will be so proud.

JB is skeptical of Jinyoung's advances toward the lead girl.

After a rather unsatisfying ending that left us with myriad, loud questions (including, what even happened to the lead girl's nonsense diagnosis of progressive full-body paralysis that was clearly given just so she could swoon into JB's arms at convenient times?), we set off to Federal Way. Note to selves: 4PM on a Saturday is a very trafficky southbound time (but northbound is even worse).

Our first stop was at HMart for Sarea to do some quick grocerying for the gamjatang she's planning to make this week. We spied some interesting Southeast Asian ice-cream flavors, including "ube yam with cheese bits". Not, I would say, my top choice.

Onward to Cafe Noir! On the way there we saw some insane driver drive up onto the sidewalk to access a strip mall area when he could have easily just entered it from a side street entrance like 20 feet away. What is the matter with people, I ask you?

We weren't sure last weekend if Cafe Noir is a place where you can hang out for long periods because they serve food/desserts in addition to coffee/tea, but we saw a number of students studying there, so points for that. Also they're open till midnight! So if ever we wanted to make our Fed Way day last to the wee hours, we now can! We ordered their fruit shaved ice, which came with a giant plop of strawberry ice-cream and chopped strawberries and mango. It looked humongous at first, but somehow we managed to eat the entire thing. Not sure if we should be proud of ourselves or...?

Next to Comma Karaoke to take advantage of their happy hour (though they open at 5 on weekends, and their sign says 6-9PM happy hour, which is weird) and because I know how to tell them "2 people" in Korean, they then always think we know all of Korean and we had to pretend and nod when the guy explained things in the room. Thankfully context and previous experience made it easy to nod and smile at all the correct things (at least, I assume; we didn't end up signing away our organs or anything so it all turned out fine).

We tried BTOB's You're So Fly for the first time, which was SO HARD, and Irresistible Lips, which was less hard than we assumed (because there is not very much rapping). Also GOT7's Hard Carry went better than last time! Though that's not saying very much because we're really bad at it.

Sarea made me go talk to the guy at the counter when it was time to pay because I'd gotten us into the "we look like we speak Korean" mess. The actual transaction went fine, but then I had to ask him in Korean if he spoke English so I could ask him more questions that I have no idea how to ask in Korean. (We've taken 5 quarters of Korean and still feel like we know next to nothing; we can't even read 10-word ad copy on all those soju posters.) Anyway, we found out a) 5PM still counts for happy hour, and b) we can ask for half hours but it won't make sense to do so because it would still count as a whole hour in terms of price.

At Bogul Bogul, jokbal (pig's feet) and dakbal (chicken feet) were on the menu so we very excitedly got those instead of the other items everyone talks about on Yelp because we've both been wanting to eat jokbal and dakbal for forever. "All the feet!" said Sarea to our expressionless and possibly dead-inside server.

The menu is basically titled pictures with little to no description, so we had no idea that what we ordered also came with a huge plate of noodles and gyeranjjim. So much food, omg. When we were done it basically looked like we hadn't eaten anything at all. Sarea tried to stuff all her leftovers into one box (even though the guy at the counter was like "Just one box...?" when she asked for it) and eventually had to capitulate and get another. But a small one! Into which she triumphantly shoved as much salad as she could.

Back to my place for Sarea to pick up the Gyu-Kaku leftovers she'd left in my fridge and to watch a quick GOT7 video of the members impersonating each other. Much hilarity. I wish I liked their music as much as I like the members; it's so not my style.

But the upshot of all this is that we will soon be welcoming two more oppas to the fold! First, JB, who Sarea liked from the start and who I was more or less indifferent about until a few days ago when I dreamt about him and now I inexplicably love him, and also Jinyoung, who Sarea is now madly in love with because he is super cute and smart and regularly sasses his fans to shreds.

Next time on Oppa Outings: Sungjae oppa gets real crabby about all of this, probably.

lolol @ GK after N talked to us, you were like, "Now you can just swan in and be like, '[snooty rich lady voice] I'm here.'" And I was like, I always do but now it might actually do something! lolol

SJK looking into your bowl of leftovers is sooooo cuuute!

I'm definitely glad I'm into at least 3 of the GOT7 members now (the others are fine, as supporting cast) and can actually look forward to the concert in LA, instead of feeling like it's something I'd rather not do. But like you, their music isn't me. I wish I liked more of it. I hope they spend more of their time doing their regular stand-up comedy routine than actually performing songs LOL.

Though if they do perform a song, I would not mind:

HAHAHAHAHA ohmygod Jinyoung I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Him: *flick*

(Edit: LOLOL omg I just noticed that in the YouTube splash screen, all the guys are doing JB's angry chin. I can't)

(BTW random aside. I saw this other vid where a fangirl yells: "영재 오빠! 내집 가요!" And apparently he's really into speaking English, and his response to that was, "No! No! That's no no." And then it switches to him in his room with the other guys, and he's like, "Do you know English? I know Engrish." :)))))))))))) "This is Youngjae's English class!" And then someone hits him over the head with a pillow and the screen freezes with the words: "Youngjae's Class: Cancelled." HAHAHAHAHA)

Next time on Oppa Outings: Sungjae oppa gets real crabby about all of this, probably. Yeah I got an earful when I got home. "Like it's so hard to stick me in your purse! I'm like 4 inches tall!"

Lolol I forgot about you being a snooty rich lady.

Hahahahaha Jackson's verse that they all know! If you haven't found a clip by then I'll let you know when I get to it in my rewatch which Real GOT7 ep it is where he tells that whole story. It's so long and he tells it so many times lol. Also lolololol at everyone doing JB's angry chin.

Yes yes Youngjae! No wait, he's super young. Just come to 내집, 영재야, I'll just make sure you're eating well and staying hydrated.

Omg K video editors are the funniest people alive, I swear.

You're gonna have to make Dog-bee keep Sungjae in line!
