Clear eyes, full hearts

I've been dragging my feet about watching Friday Night Lights despite many f-listers' love for it and its critical acclaim, mostly because football makes absolutely no sense to me as a sport. But the show has been on my 'maybe I'll watch it' list for a while, and since the S1 DVDs were just sitting there at the library yesterday I thought I'd give it a go (and then tried to convince my sister to watch it with me, even though football is even more inscrutable to her).
We have watched the first four episodes so far, and I'm not exactly hooked yet, but I'm more than willing to finish out the first season, at least. Sister may not make it that far; she says there is too much football. I could see myself getting invested, though, possibly because I may be in love with Matt Saracen.
Meep.

on 2010-12-21 10:32 pm (UTC)I have to say, it's taken me a little bit of time to warm up to Riggins but the scene where he finally goes to see Street at the rehab center made me have to pretend I had something in my eye.

on 2010-12-21 01:21 pm (UTC)Also, I feel the same about this show. In that I couldn't possibly care less about football if I tried, but I've heard nothing but great things about this show and have been considering watching it for a while.
I shall wait to hear your verdict on it, before I jump in. Though usually, if I'm not invested by 3 episodes, I'm not likely to get invested...
Um, I should be going to work...;)

on 2010-12-21 10:38 pm (UTC)Well, I'd say if you can get a hold of the DVDs easily enough, go for it. Even if you don't end up getting invested I don't think it'll have been a waste of time; it's quite well-written and some of the characters are very compelling.
There is quite a bit of football, which I thought would be super dull, but it's not done in a gratuitous sort of way, you know? It's integral to the storylines and the characterisations, so I don't mind it.
