Why is gas so expensiiiive? D:

Met up with [livejournal.com profile] lyndsiefenele and [livejournal.com profile] sarea_okelani yesterday to see No Strings Attached, which was enjoyable enough. By no means a cinemastic masterpiece, but it was cute and had a few funny moments, so that pretty much meets my expectations for romcoms. I didn't understand the point of Cary Elwes' character, though I'm not complaining, as I am always happy to see Cary Elwes. Incidentally, why don't I have any Princess Bride icons?

Sarea also passed me S1 and S2 of Misfits, which I am tres excited to watch, since everybody seems to love it.

PBS is currently airing Downton Abbey; I missed the first couple of episodes, so am catching up at the Masterpiece website. I'm in the middle of what I think is originally ep 4 (PBS squishes the eps together to make one hour-and-a-half episode), and I am nonplussed at Matthew suddenly being jealous of the attention Mary's getting from the Turkish dude and that other lordy guy. I'm sorry, but so far, Mary's been nothing but a stuck-up bee, and nobody should be interested in her. Then again I say this while at the same time kind of liking Thomas, who is an asshole, and hoping he gets a happily gay ever after, so there might be something wrong with this picture.

Downton. I liked that one! Thomas is kind of interesting. And Mary, well, I thinks she's a nicely complicated person.

It went totally under the radar for me until it showed up on PBS recently; Upstairs Downstairs is another one that'll be coming soon. British period dramas, huzzah! I will have to take your word about Mary for now :)

I think that's the brilliance of Downton, for me -- Mary is such a complex character and it takes a long time to love her. But you will!

Thomas is my beautiful, beautiful baby and I spent the whole series wishing and hoping for him to be redeemed. You'll have to wait and see if he is or not. :D

Ooh, good, I look forward to it! I mean, I can think of several reasons why Mary is the way she is (as far as I've gotten in the series), but I'm hoping it'll be addressed in the actual show as well! Currently, though, I just don't see why Matthew would be attracted to her.

Heee, now I feel better for liking Thomas even though he is all scheming and whatnot. :)

This Downton Abbey - I need to look into what the hell it is. I have it set so that anything Masterpiece Classic gets recorded, and it's been recording this, but I have no idea if it's getting them all, lol. In fact I know the very first part was recorded later. Just another thing in my multi-locus media queue.

Haa, oh that is such a good idea. If it didn't get one, though, the eps are up on the PBS website until end-Feb.

I love Downton Abbey! I think s1 was so much set up for s2, at least that was how it felt for me. Now why don't I have a Downton icon? *goes to look for one*

Yeah, it does feel like it's a lot of setup, but of course with that many characters and so few episodes, it would have to be! I have a feeling I will be searching for icons pretty soon, too :)

*nod* I think it was their hope of a second series so they packed as much interesting plots in series one as they could. I have yet to find any icons I really love. :(

I found out the purpose of the Cary Elwes character. I felt the same way about him as you -- all this weird UST that went nowhere -- and I complained about it to Jade, who had seen a screening of the movie.

It turns out that originally, he and Natalie Portman DO end up having a fling!! Well Jade hated it and thought it was really wrong, and she begged on her comment card for them to take it out. She probably wasn't the only person to feel that way, since, as we saw, they did cut that out from the final version of the movie. :D

But isn't it a relief to know why that character was even there and why he was played by Cary Elwes?! At least now that makes sense. Though the result of course was that his presence in the movie was kind of pointless.

OHHH okay, that makes so much more sense! What luck that you've got connections :) So, yes, pretty pointless character, but Cary Elwes sightings are never a bad thing!

PS: Details for Thursday!

Oh, yeah, gas prices were ridiculous when I was in Singapore, but I didn't have to drive there!

I have a poster of that image! LOVE that movie. :)

Downton Abbey: The show didn't do a good job of showing the timeline. I mean, I was all wtf, but it turned out more time had passed than we were actually shown. Did that make sense?

My opinion of the characters changed a lot. I hated Mary with a passion, but I ended up kind of liking her. My favourite is Sybil though.

GO WATCH MISFITS NOW. *ahem*

Ohh okay, yes, that would make more sense. I mean, I'd obviously prefer it if we got to see things happening that would indicate the Matthew/Mary thing, but the time lapse does make it a little better.

I'm getting to Misfits soon! :)

Want cheap gas - move to where I live. Gas is cheaper than water here. trufax. We also fry our brains out for a good part of the year though.

Hee, next time I move, it's going to be a place where I don't have to drive. :) (Or fry my brains out.)
