Les Choristes was on TV last night, and I'm completely in love with its music. If you are better at paying attention than I am, you may remember the film making kind of a big splash back in 2004; it was huge in France and had a lot of buzz at the Oscars that year. As a film, it's probably not going to change anyone's life; the plot is fairly formulaic -- new teacher arrives at a boarding school for troubled boys, teaches the boys to sing, and changes everything for the better -- but it's well done and the music is wonderful.
And because I enjoy pushing my tastes on others, here's a clip of the choir in action at a concert. I would post a clip from the film itself, but all the ones available on youtube kinda sorta give away big-ish turning points; in any case, this song is in the film, so it's all good. It features a solo by Jean Baptiste Maunier, who is the lead child in the movie, and who needs to come home with me so I can bake him lots of cookies and occasionally ruffle his hair.
